Neodymium Iron Boron (NdFeB) or ‘Neo’, is generally considered to be the strongest of the permanent magnet materials. Available in a wide range of shapes and sizes, large Neos can be dangerous in large sizes.

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) is a high power magnet of slightly less power than a Neodymium. The advantage with this material is it's up to 250˚C temperature ability. They are more costly than other magnets, but are essential when a high temperature strong magnet is required.

Ceramic or Ferrite magnets are made from Barium or Strontium and Ferric. Strontium Ferrite’s are a powerful and cost effective alternative to Neodymium magnets - perfect for prototyping.

Alnico is an alloy that contains varying amounts of Aluminium, Nickel and Cobalt as well as other metals. Typically, Alnico formulas have very high temperature capabilities, up to 540˚C. They are not as powerful as other types of magnet and lose their magnetism with time.
