This type of magnet is most effective when the product can flow over the plate's face as it falls from the conveyor to the next production process.

 

Whether the plate magnet is used on it's own or in conjunction with the overhead magnet in case some contamination is held down by a large piece of product and can not work its way to the surface. As the product falls from the conveyor it passes over the plate magnet and any contamination is caught and held.  This is usually the last chance to eliminate any unwanted material.
